“For most people, the energy bill is the second largest expense of owning a home…second only to the mortgage payment. With a little knowledge, you have the power to lower your energy costs and create a better home in the process.

The City of Fresno is pleased to provide the Home Energy Tune-Up program to residents of Fresno, Kings, Kern, Tulare, and Madera Counties served by Pacific Gas and Electric Company. This program is funded by California utility customers and administered by Pacific Gas and Electric Company under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.

Home Energy Tune-Up educates homeowners about energy savings opportunities in their homes through a variety of free energy efficiency service offerings.

How the Program Works

Energy efficient choices can save you up to a third on your home’s energy bill, while improving air quality indoors and out and adding to your comfort year-round. The more you do, the more you save. And informed consumers save the most.

The City of Fresno understands that a home’s energy use may vary significantly from one home to the next for a variety of reasons. As a result, the most cost effective means to evaluate a home’s energy use and potential for savings may vary. Fresno is pleased to expand its Home Energy Tune-Up program to include the following service levels:

Home Energy Profile
The Home Energy Tune-up Program is a partnership between the City of Fresno and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company designed to help homeowners reduce their energy costs through education about how they are using energy and then identifying ways to reduce that use through simple do-it-yourself measures, upgrades and/or repairs of systems in the home.  We encourage you to use the Home Energy Profile to learn how energy is used in your home. This service is available 24 hours a day online so you’ll get immediate feedback. When you sign up, the Home Energy Profile automatically accesses the energy data in your PG&E account and creates a detailed profile of where the energy is going in your home. Based on the analysis, you’ll get a recommendations on which energy saving service will be best for you.

Build your Home Energy Profile,  and select the orange “Register”. You’ll need a PG&E online MyEnergy account to build your profile.  Creating a PG&E account is simple and fast, and can be done by going to PGE.com and selecting “Register” in the orange My Account box in the upper right hand corner.

HETU Phone Consultation
A 15-20 minute phone consultation with a HETU Energy Efficiency (EE) analyst is the best follow-up if your profile shows heating and cooling are NOT the big energy hogs for your home. The Home Energy Profile service analyzes your smart meter data so our EE analyst can make thoughtful energy efficiency recommendations without having take up your valuable time with a full onsite diagnostic evaluation. In order to qualify for a Phone Consultation, you must create your HETU account and Home Energy Profile. In addition, all homeowners completing a HETU Home Energy Profile and Phone Consultation will receive an Energy Efficiency package containing (2) state-of-the-art Light Emitting Diode (LED) replacement light bulbs. Home Energy Standard Survey
The 30-45 minute HETU Standard in-home survey is conducted by qualified and industry certified Home Energy Raters and is designed for home owners that are interested in learning more about energy efficiency and possibly pursuing home energy retrofits. It is the best follow-up if your home profile shows greater than average heating and cooling energy use. During your Standard survey, Raters evaluate the furnace, air conditioning equipment, review lighting, conduct a blower door test of air infiltration, review age and condition of all appliances and evaluate insulation type and quality in the attic, walls and floor, both visually and with the use of infrared camera imagery. All of our visual and diagnostic inspection information is collected on a standardized Data Collection Form (DCF) and submitted to HETU energy modeling experts for processing. Whole-House Home Energy Survey
A thorough “whole-house” evaluation of a home is designed for homes that have significantly high monthly heating and/or cooling bills or for home owners that are seriously considering and planning home energy retrofits. Depending on the size of the home and the number of certified Raters scheduled, the survey can take from 2-4 hours to complete. Like the Standard assessment, all of our visual and diagnostic inspection information is collected on a standardized Data Collection Form (DCF) and submitted to HETU energy modeling experts for processing. Within 1-2 weeks of your whole-house survey, you will receive a comprehensive report that includes the results of your assessment and provides cost effective recommendations for saving energy and lowering your monthly utility bills. The Home Energy Tune-up Program is a partnership between the City of Fresno and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company designed to help homeowners reduce their energy costs through education about how they are using energy and then identifying ways to reduce that use through upgrades and/or repairs of systems in the home.  The first step in this process is to review how you as a homeowner are using energy in your home and how your usage compares with similar homes in your neighborhood.  To do that, PG&E has developed the MyEnergy tool on their web site and the Home Energy Profile link connects you to that site to get started.  If you already have a log-in and password set up to access your account, please log-in and then review your usage on an annual, monthly, and daily basis.  If you do not have your log-in and password set up, please take the time to do that so you can access this valuable tool provided by PG&E.  If you see that your usage is significantly higher that similar homes in your neighborhood, please consider using the Home Energy Standard Survey service below.  If, after reviewing your usage, you are seriously considering upgrading your home systems, the Whole House Home Energy Survey service is your best choice.
